The first version of Golfatross was a scoring app for one afternoon at Avalon Lakes. Eight teams, four players each, eighteen holes. The sort of outing that lives in a Google Sheet and an increasingly chaotic group text.

By the second beer on the 4th tee, three guys had asked "can we use this for our outing next year?" By sundown, the answer was yes. This is the platform we're building — starting with the one event we actually care about, expanding to every annual trip, league, and charity scramble that still runs on paper scorecards and prayer.

Do players have to download an app?
No, you can use our web app or download our mobile app.  Works on any phone. The native iOS and Android apps launch in 2026 with Apple Watch / Wear OS rangefinder support.
Is Beer Equity a joke?
Yes and no. It's a real handicap system — drinks are tracked per team, strokes are adjusted by an admin-configurable formula (e.g., every 6 team drinks more than the average = 1 stroke, capped at 3). But admin can also disable it entirely or use it just for bragging rights. There are four leaderboard views — Raw, Handicapped, Beer Equity, Beer Equity Handicapped — and the admin picks which is "official." Drink responsibly, etc.
How do payments work?
Four models. (A) Pass-through — course charges players directly. (B) Organizer-as-merchant — you set a player price, collect via Stripe, pay the course separately. (C) Split payment — auto-splits between you and the course. (0) Cash/offline — no payment features, just logistics and scoring. Model B is most common and is how most charity outings already work.
What formats do you support?
4-man and 2-man scramble, best ball, shamble, individual stroke play, captain's choice, alternate shot, match play. Plus side games: skins, Nassau, Wolf, Bunny, Bingo Bango Bongo, Dots. Leagues support flights and handicap-adjusted standings.
Can I run a league, not a one-off outing?
Yes. League mode supports seasons of 5-20+ rounds, flights, handicaps, and championships. Every course your league plays shows up in one place with cumulative standings.
What if my course isn't on Golfatross?
The course database has 32,000+ US courses with GPS data. If yours is missing, email [email protected] to request that we add to our database. Venues without staff accounts still get an auto-generated outing summary email — no course sign-up required for you to run your event.
